Allan Savory works to promote holistic management in the grasslands of the world. I discovered his work, quite by chance and am an instant fan.

Why you should listen to what he has to say.

According to his website, Desertification of the world's grasslands, Allan Savory suggests, is the immediate cause of poverty, social breakdown, violence, cultural genocide -- and a significant contribution to climate change. In the 1960s, while working in Africa on the interrelated problems of increasing poverty and disappearing wildlife, Savory made a significant breakthrough in understanding the degradation and desertification of grassland ecosystems. After decades of study and collaboration, thousands of managers of land, livestock and wildlife on five continents today follow the methodology he calls "Holistic Management."

Just imagine: a man comes up with a plan that can solve so many of today's problems without sacrificing coal. Imagine a plan that feeds the poor and eliminates the need for mass migration. Well, after watching his 20 minute video presentation, I became convinced that this humble man has come up with the solution - not necessarily to Life the Universe and Everything, but a pretty good start.

Australia is currently entertaining the idea of signing up to the Paris Agreement which would necessitate the culling of our livestock here in Australia.

From what I have learned, it is the OPPOSITE to what we should be doing!

His website goes on to say :

" Livestock had long been blamed for creating deserts, but Savory realized it was how those livestock were managed that was the problem, and it was the management that had to change.

Savory developed a method for planning livestock grazing that enabled pastoralists to simulate the effects wild herds once produced on the land, and the results were dramatic. But more than grazing planning had to change in order to transform whole landscapes and keep them healthy. Holistic Management arose from that insight.

Savory developed a new framework for management that enables people to make decisions that satisfy immediate needs without jeopardizing their future well-being or that of others.

Although rooted in a quest to stop the spread of deserts, Holistic Management and its underlying framework, can also be used to better manage any situation that involves a web of social, economic, and environmental complexity. "

It seems to me that the Social Justice Warriors, Greens, lefties and so many of our Politicians and " Reporters" need to leave their safe space and start opening their minds to solutions, rather than creating more problems that are seemingly a direct result of their narrow minded " We are doomed " mentality.

It would appear that we are NOT doomed. We have the opportunity to be responsible Guardians of this planet whilst still enjoying the bounty that it offers.

He offers e books for sale and I wonder if someone needs to chip in a few bucks and buy some copies to send to Canberra before Paris is signed and our herds begin to disappear in a dust cloud?
