When we stand at Dawn on the morning of 25 April I wonder: are we saluting our fallen heroes or are we saluting our fallen unity?

I will stand, and salute the men that fought and died so that I could stand and weep that, after over 100 years we FORGOT. Forgot the value of FREEDOM..

When I think of ANZAC Day I think of my late Great Granpa.

Friends come and go, and sure at times - family too. But Great Granpa  was a man I looked up to, a man that was so old but still going down to the beach, throwing the dog his ball..  nothing stopped him. He’s my idol.  I just love that man; if I could do anything to turn back the clock I would.. but we can’t. But I can remember him. Maybe to me, as a young Australian, that is what ANZAC Day is about.

Remembering.

Is this our modern Gallipoli moment?

Our baptism of fire, hell and brimstone?

In a recent article, someone commented that what Gallipoli did to unite us as a Nation, Covid and our governments have been undone in 2 years.

And what a statement of truth that was.

It has been truly said that Australia arrived in Gallipoli as six separate States and returned as a Nation with its own national identity. In achieving this, of the over 50,000 Australians who served at Gallipoli during a period of 260 days, there were 8,159 deaths in total, comprised of 5,482 killed in action, 2,012 deaths from wounds, and 665 deaths from disease.

To the armchair Revisionists, these are merely numbers and not men who gave their lives for their country and are buried in a far-off land.

Of all the legends and stories about ANZAC the most enduring one is that of Simpson and his donkey.

I clearly remember being told this story as a very young child when I was in grade 2 in 1941. In those days we were repeatedly told stories about the “last” war; last meaning previous, not end or final.

His immediate response was  " a Republic " He then said " Ma'am -  if you can keep it. "

Yet Americans today have been persuaded that our nation's governmental system is a democracy and not a republic The difference between these two is essential in understanding Americanism and the American system  Before we discuss political systems however it's helpful to address the confusion that has been spread about the political spectrum. Many have been led to believe that the political spectrum places groups such as communists on the far left;  fascists or dictators on the far right and political moderates or centrists in the middle.

“It’s the ‘everyday’ experiences we encounter along the journey to who we wanna be that will define who we are when we get there.”

And that is my life. My  experiences in a time of war where I lived in sheltered oblivion to what was happening outside my small community back in the 1930's and 1940's. A time of freedom and joy. A time of happiness and a reality that we never knew was threatening us.

It is one year since the burial of Prince Philip. It was something that in many ways symbolised the passing of the old guard. The handing over of our future to a group of people who have never learned that, without respect for the past,  we will be given a future that none of us could ever have imagined or ever wanted.

It is a future that fills me with dread. It is also a future that we still have a chance to retrieve, if only we have the courage to fight for.

But these days, so many people don't really care.

It is beyond embarrassing how they wheel Joe Biden out to speak to his imaginary friends.

The Hunter Biden laptop is a fact, no matter which way the media try to spin it.  The whole Russian propaganda rubbish would be laughable if it wasn't so serious.

Like Covid, the fact checkers are out of lies and those of us who still have functioning brain cells know it.

If you’ve been following the news about Ukraine but still don’t understand that it’s the single most aggressively narrative managed and psyop-intensive war in human history, there is a 100 percent chance you believe false things about what’s happening there.

It’s not a question of if the US played a role in Imran Khan’s removal but how and to what extent. ❖ We’re about to see a judge sign off on Julian Assange’s extradition to the United States for exposing the empire’s war crimes while that same empire blasts us all in the face with an unprecedented war propaganda campaign about rescuing Ukraine’s freedom and democracy.

This morning I went outside to sit in the sunshine and have a morning cup of tea. The manager of my building complex was mowing the lawn and the smell of the freshly mown grass was in the morning air. Most of us know that smell so well and it triggers memories of childhoods and happy days.

For me, it was of a particular time of year, Spring. When the lawns were growing, the grass was springing out of the earth with such gay abandon that it was like the grass was singing with so much joy at the end of winter that it was bursting with happiness.
