It's an old Aussie saying that there is nothing worse than a sponger. To many people around the world, a sponge is either a soft cake or something used in a kitchen to soak up crappy water from the bench.
Or, as it is used down under, someone who sucks the life out of those that around them. A sponger is someone who contributes nothing but absorbs other people's hard earned wealth and wages and wishes to use that in order to sit back and do sweet bugger all.
“Always follow your heart – unless your heart is bad with directions.”
This happens financially and emotionally. Those that are so desperate for attention or advantage that they drain their host of dollars, delight and determination that they feed, like parasites on whoever their victim is.
They care not for you, the poor bugger that feeds them - whether it be emotionally or financially. All they want is more, more and more.
:Like the tree in the forest that is invaded by a parastic vine that draws on the tree's energy and saps the strength out of that tree; like the Cancerous tumours that grow inside a body and consumes all of the life from its host, this sponge craves a host. Someone who will accept the cry for help, the plea of misery and torment and that only your help can make them cope with their horrific state of mind and health and wellbeing.
Caring and loving human beings rise to the challenge and embrace that basic human need for comfort. We believe that the person will benefit from our warm embrace of human kindness. So we listen. We talk. We sympathise. We CARE. And we send our love in words and deeds and receive messages of love and gratitude back in return.
“We shall never deny a guest, even the most ridiculous request.”
As time passes, we become weary. The phone rings and our needy friend has had another dilemma and is facing another crisis. Slowly but surely, we are giving so much that we are left drained ourselves.
“If I were to die right now in a fiery explosion due to the carelessness of a friend…Then it would just be alright.”
Have you ever felt that way? Where, if you get another call from a needy friend, you just want to skip the call and pretend that you were in the shower or washing the dog?
Needy people are sponges. They soak up your life force and drain you of all of your hope, optimism and joy. They leave you empty. Don't get me wrong: I have been needy. I have needed help, support and love. But I have not made a career out of it.
Meanwhile they, the professional " needy " recharged, soldier on on YOUR energy until they need a recharge.
“I’ll have you know that I stubbed by toe last week and only cried for 20 minutes.”
That is the sponge.
So what about the spongers?
Well, they also feed off you. Not from your energy, but from your money. Your work. Your energy that has been invested in the currency of Living.
You work hard. You slog your guts out. And someone comes along and wants a cut of your hard earned dosh and claim it for their own.
Most of us would agree that, if someone is down on their luck, they can get a leg up from their mate. That is what mates do.
But spongers don't care about your hard work. They only care about getting a cut from your pay packet.
There is a massive difference between a mate in need and a sponger.
Regardless of the interpretation of the sponge on a metaphorical level, there is one truth that cannot be denied: Spongers are trying to take over the world.
In order to get rich.
“Well, the way I see it, there are three possibilities: One, you stole it; two, you stole it; or three, you stole it!”
Like the tumour, the so called friend that craves your positivity and rips your life force from you, the sponges want to take us over.
I cannot help but think of Spongebob Square pants when he said
Yes, that is about as much sense that this sponge mentality makes in this so called modern world we call home.
We truly have become a world ruled by spongers, sponges and those who feel they have the right to sponge.
As Spongebob Squarepants said
Think on this when you vote America, A 700% increase in immigration of the needy will drain your pockets and leave you gasping for air - are you prepared for that?
As the Sponge himself said
“Good people don’t rip other people’s arms off.”
