Faith Family and freedom

So said Vice President Mike Pence. The real one, not the ex Vice President that Chris Wallace referred to in the debate. Yes, I know that it is a courtesy afforded to ex Vice Presidents, but it seemed strange to me that Wallace referred to PRESIDENT Trump as Mr Trump… but that is what happens these days when it is politically incorrect to be correct. The left can pick and choose when it comes to accuracy.

I was struck by the outrage over a group I had never heard of before “ Proud Boys.”

Apparently it was dreadful that President Trump failed to denounce this group. So I looked them up and checked it out.

According to their website they have these tenets ( beliefs)

Core Values Of The Proud Boys

Minimal Government
Maximum Freedom
Anti-Political Correctness
Anti-Drug War
Closed Borders
Anti-Racial Guilt
Anti-Racism
Pro-Free Speech (1st Amendment)
Pro-Gun Rights (2nd Amendment)
Glorifying the Entrepreneur
Venerating the Housewife
Reinstating a Spirit of Western Chauvinism

Though these are our central tenets, all that is required to become a Proud Boy is that a man declare he is “a Western chauvinist who refuses to apologize for creating the modern world.” We do not discriminate based upon race or sexual orientation/preference. We are not an “ism”, “ist”, or “phobic” that fits the Left’s narrative. We truly believe that the West Is The Best and welcome those who believe in the same tenets as us

The only word I see there that could be questioned is that C word” Chauvinism. “

I looked it up in both a modern dictionary and also a 1964 dictionary that Redhead has kept for nearly 60 years.

In 1964 chauvinism was defined as :

Bellicose    patriotism,  foreign  jingoism.

I consider myself reasonably well versed in the English language but bellicose had me stumped. Apparently it means stroppy, a bit argumentative and not backwards in coming forward.

That would be my late father for sure. Who knew he was a chauvinist? All those years that he handed his pay packet to my Mum, Redhead, declined invitations to go gambling or waste his money on booze and cigarettes, I never knew or suspected that he was a chauvinist.

Be buggered. When he pursued a young suitor off our property wielding a shovel he was being a chauvinist. And there was me thinking he was just being my Dad.

Dad was a patriot and yes, he was foreign. He came from a tiny Island in the middle of the Irish Sea. A jingoist?

Again, I had to look up the word. It seems that a jingoist is someone who has inflated ideas of patriotism. Overly patriotic. Well, my Dad was not overly patriotic. He was, however, overly protective of his family, his home and his way of life.

So I suppose that is jingoism – to care too much. To protect too much. To love too much.

In which case, my Dad was a jingoist chauvinist patriotic foreigner.

And I loved and love him for it.

If Proud Boys stand for what my father stood for then they are alright by me.

As a 65 year old female of heterosexual persuasion who no longer has to fight off suitors, I commend a group of men who defend the right to be men. The right to defend women who choose to be women and the right to stand for Faith, Family and Freedom.

I applaud Proud Boys who appear to be standing for my RIGHT to be a woman and their RIGHT to be men.

Redhead and my late Dad reared me and my two brothers. Both proud men. Both brought up as proud boys. Their friends were my friends and we mucked in together and looked after each other.

We were brought up with Faith, Family and Freedom. Unless, of course, someone wore pointy shoes and had long hair – in which case, he would get the shovel. But you would have to read the article to understand that comment.

My father was also a softie. A bar of soap showed it yet it was my undoing.

My Dad was a man of principle.

If the Proud Boys network have half the character of my late father then I see them as good men. Proud men. Decent men.

Chauvinists? Yep. Guilty as charged.

Maybe it is time for a bit more chauvinism and a little less soy latte? A little less violence in the streets in the name of progressive change?

I had an Uncle who was hardly politically correct and I loved him all the same

It is Redhead’s neighbour’s who are the blokey blokes who willingly help her with things she cannot do.

It is the chauvinists who do their bit in lieu of my Dad.

It is the blokes who are proud to be boys and men who wield the shovel.

I do not want a soy boy to defend me. I want a man.

Not some simpy little weasel.

Amen.
