How could this happen?

Did the hard left villify and destroy them? Let's face it. If you want to speak out against the " movement " and speak for the " will of the people " you are doomed these days.

It is all about minority rights, climate change and global government, isn't it?

Back in 2005, the then Health Minister in Australia, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott had some sage words to say.

I provide an excerpt here for us ( below ) to reflect upon and wonder what on earth went wrong in our Nation when we saw him not only lose his role as Prime Minister, but later voted out of his Parliamentary Seat and replaced with a wind turbine loving leftie with no clue.

In 2005, he was the Health Minister under the Howard government. He was tasked with writing the Pandemic Preparedness Plan.

This plan was utterly abandoned in 2020 with the outbeak of Covid.

This post explores his view in 2005 and his view today in 2024.

No matter which country you call home, I believe there is much wisdom in his words - both then and now.

So let us take a dive down the rabbit hole and ponder the passage of time and the change in our governance......

Let's have a look at an interview he did in February 2024 with Senator Alex Antic.

Partial Transcript - excerpts and punctuation is mine. Emphasis is also my own.

" Two and a half three years on, we've come out the other end of it but obviously there was a lot of a lot of navel gazing and review that has to go on from there. I did a lot of thinking about potential pandemics back in the day. We were worried about a bird flu pandemic because we did have several hundreds of cases of bird flu in China and other parts of of East Asia and that was a very very deadly disease - something like a 30% case fatality rate and we feared that any pandemic version at least initially would have a very very high mortality rate - perhaps exceeding the mortality rate of the Spanish flu epidemic back in the 1918, 1919 and in the United States which then had a population of about 100 million.

It's thought that a half a million people perished as a result of that pandemic .

We all did a lot of thinking back then and the result of that thinking was a national pandemic plan here in Australia ( and there were similar pandemic plans in all of the other major countries).

Those plans provided for a strict quarantine on the borders for a period of time during which we would ramp up our hospital system to cope and do our best to protect the elderly. But there was never any thought of ordering people to stay at home, ordering business to close.... in fact we thought that the big challenge would be keeping essential services going, given levels of disease and given the fear that people might have of going abroad under such

circumstances.

Interestingly, all of the pandemic plans - including our own - were essentially junked in the first weeks of March 2020 in favor of the Wuhan plan. The Wuhan plan was basically lock everyone up and hope that this virus disappears.

It's not going to disappear. We've got to learn to live with it.

We went with the Wuhan plan and thought that we could eliminate the virus. Well, we spent the best part of two years trying to do that. We inflicted massive damage on ourselves. We probably did minimise deaths early on by doing this, but, in the end we were always going to have to cope with this. I certainly think that the first lockdown may have been justifiable, but the subsequent lockdowns certainly weren't.

I think it was fear and apprehension that was fueled by the footage coming out of Northern Italy in late February, early March 2020 of hospitals apparently being overwhelmed by by covid patients .... now, it was a serious situation and you do have to ensure that your hospital system can cope. Which is why, under the plans that we had in place, we would Implement strict quarantine for a period - on our borders - to delay the advent of the pandemic disease in this country and . in the meantime, ramp up a hospital system. In part , by designating some hospitals as as pandemic hospitals; emptying them of their normal case load and having them ready to deal with the pandemic illness.... creating extra facilities to deal with that. You might remember back in March April of 2020 the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced that the Victorian government was going to create 4,000 extra ICU beds in Victoria and, in particular, was going to turn the Exhibition Centre in Melbourne into a pandemic ICU Centre.

The Victorian government, in the end, despite spending hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars supposedly to create these additional ICU beds, didn't create any additional ICU beds.... and that was why they had to keep the state locked down for very very long periods of time because they didn't ramp up the health system to deal with additional cases which you might have early on in any pandemic situation.

So we we took our lead from what was - going on in Wuhan - we locked everyone up. Then the idea grew that we could somehow eliminate this virus.

We couldn't. In the meantime we neglected, particularly in New South Wales, in Victoria .... rather particularly in Victoria ..... we neglected taking steps that the pandemic plans mandated.

Are we becoming too risk averse? Directed by Global bodies like the World Health Organization?

Are we listening too much to them and the UN and other bodies?

Well, in the end we have elected accountable ministers and heads of government. Making the appropriate decisions and - sensible ministers .... and sensible governments certainly take advice from the relevant experts. But in the

end, it's the government that has to make the decision and if the business of government is just following expert advice, why why bother with elections?

Why bother with parliaments?

We'd just do what the officials tell us to do.... it would be an official dictatorship so to speak , as opposed to a liberal Democratic regime; and as we now know, we weren't really following official advice because the official advice varied from month to month and from state to state.

What we were really doing was , I think, being Ultra Ultra cautious. Almost chronically risk averse, when it was pretty clear from from April of 2020.

While this was serious, it certainly wasn't the Black Death; it wasn't even the Spanish Flu Yet we treated it as though it were. As a result, we spent hundreds of billions, millions of dollars that we shouldn't have spent and

" On February 4 last year, I read an urgent brief from the Chief Medical Officer. Ministers receive all sorts of urgent departmental documents, usually to do with cabinet, legislative or regulatory deadlines. This one made the stuff of daily politics and routine administration seem utterly trivial. It advised of a possible re-run of the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1919. Since then, a significant part of Australia's health policy establishment has been considering how to deal with a far-from-merely-speculative influenza emergency which could dwarf the health
consequences of a conventional terrorist attack. "

Part of this is recorded below. The original appears here. in it's entirety. Tony Abbott said this in 2005:

" Once a decision to impose border security measures had been made, every incoming passenger would be required to make a health declaration, thermal scanners would operate at international airports to detect possible flu cases on entry and quarantine isolation areas would be established. Influenza surveillance networks would be activated immediately and detection and treatment information would be sent to every GP and other health professionals such as pharmacists. Today I am releasing a pandemic influenza awareness kit which will be sent to every GP in the next few weeks.

In a severe outbreak, health authorities would have two objectives: first, containment to try to prevent the spread of disease; and second, once a lethal flu strain was generally established, maintenance of essential services. . "

" Once pandemic flu was present in the Australian community, depending on its severity, the Government would have to decide whether to discourage or ban large gatherings and close schools. Any such measures would have serious economic consequences but they could slow the spread of disease and allow more people to be protected by any vaccine that's ultimately developed. Once pandemic flu had spread beyond designated quarantine areas, the Government would also have to decide whether to rely on home quarantine of flu cases with mobile medical teams treating most patients and designated hospitals dealing only with the most serious cases.

Not since World War Two have Australians had to cope with very large numbers of premature deaths. Australians are unused to contemplating the possibility of death on a massive scale, especially from "natural causes". The competing temptations are "it won't happen here" complacency, "there's nothing we can do" fatalism, or "no precaution is too great" alarmism.

All these grave scenarios come from material already published and in the public domain. Even so, it's hard to discuss potential disasters outside people's ordinary experience without generating the sort of lurid headlines which make some scoff and others panic. It's important not to over-react to potential threats. On the other hand, people and their governments need to take credible threats seriously and take reasonable and proportionate precautions against them. If a deadly flu pandemic ever seems imminent, no preparations will be enough.

Since 1998, and with much greater urgency since late 2003, all Australian governments have been preparing for a flu outbreak that might, if not prepared for, overwhelm the health system and paralyse normal society for months. Those preparations are far from complete. It's clear that we cannot guard against all contingencies and that a severe outbreak would test our national capacity in ways unknown for half a century. Even so, much work has been done and it's important that experts and policy makers take the Australian public into their confidence
lest people one day say they had never been warned. "

Of course, I am curious. Why it is that thousands can now enter Australia without SECURITY checks or HEALTH checks. It must be something to do with, I dunno, Climate Change?
